 Brent Reed
Ocheyedan, IA
POAC
My name is Brent Reed. I am a senior at
Sibley Ocheyedan High School; I will graduate in May 2012. I
am the son of Julius and Lorrie Reed from Ocheyedan, Iowa. I
have one older sister, Amanda.
I have been showing Pony of the Americas since I was two
years old. I have shown several very awesome ponies but my
favorite is the pony I am showing right now. His name is
Lotta Dotta and he is 16 years old. Lotta and I compete in
Showmanship, Horsemanship, English Equitation, Bareback
Horsemanship, Western and English Pleasure, Open Costume,
Native American Costume. Open Jumping, Hunter Over Fences,
Equitation Over Fences, Hunter Hack, Western Riding, Reining
and we do all the game classes. Lotta is very athletic and
very smart and we have become quite a team.
I competed this last year at the Reichert Celebration and
had such a good time. I won 5 jackets plus the high point
13-18 Boy all around award. It was a fun weekend and I am
hoping to attend again.
When I’m not showing POA’s I participate in several sports
in school. I wrestle and this last year I went to State in
113 pound weight class. I also play golf. I have been active
in the drama club, band and I am a member of the National
Honor Society.
In the fall I plan to attend Iowa State University where I
will major in Civil Engineering. I want to thank the
Reichert Foundation for the scholarship as this will help
make my dream of becoming a Civil Engineer a reality.
Haley Hill
Sportsmanship Scholarship
My goal for this year is to pick a college.
I want to attend Baylor University. I know that this is a
lofty goal but I have wanted to attend this University since
I was eleven and my sister began her freshman year there. I
want to major in Film and Digital Media with a minor in
Biology. My senior year has consisted of scholarship
applications, scholarship applications, and more scholarship
applications trying to come up with enough to go to Baylor.
I’ve had a great year with my horse Howard. He is my best
friend and teammate. We have been showing together in AQHA
for about six years now. We compete at all of my shows
without a trainer. It’s just my mom and I with the gear plus
Howard, and my Meme and DK in the stands. My grandmother
makes all of my outfits from scratch and does an amazing
job. My mom takes a triple role as stall hand, hair artist,
and number one fan. My DK tapes everything to help me
improve and my sister (currently getting her PHD and taking
a break from the show world) joins us whenever she can. My
dad simply puts up with it all. I wouldn’t have it any other
way. I spend my after school time taking care of Howard and
doing barn chores. I love the one on one time with my
special bay boy and I know he loves me. He is quite the
personality. He loves peppermints and Sonic ice. He wants a
drink of whatever you are drinking and is a large lap dog.
He loves to be as close to you as he can. My dad jokes that
the horse is loved more than he is. The majority of the rest
of my time is taken up by school and volunteer services. I
love to be a part of my community. I volunteer at my local
nursing home, church children’s department, and other areas
in my community.

Lindsey Conti
Castalian Springs, TN
APHA
My name is Lindsey Conti. I am an 18 year
old senior at Westmoreland High School in Westmoreland,
Tennessee. I am the daughter of Lou and Linda Conti and I
have one older brother, Louie.
I have been around horses as long as I can
remember. I got my first horse, Mr. Beau Straw, when I was
six years old and he was three. I started showing in the
Okay Horse Show Association in Oklahoma. My family and I
moved to Missouri when I was in third grade and in 2006, I
began showing in the American Ranch Horse Association. In
the fall of 2007, I got my paint mare, Rose Deelivery. Rosey
and I compete in showmanship, horsemanship, ranch riding,
trail, sorting, cutting, ranch cutting, ranch roping,
reining, ranch reining, conformation, and our favorite
events are working ranch horse and working cow horse. In
2009, we won the ARHA Year End Youth High Point and All Age
High Point along with several state charter High Point
Awards. In the spring of 2010, Rosey was injured, requiring
an eight month stall and minimal exercise rest. I had a goal
for Rosey to have one last hoorah at the 2011 World Show. We
exhibited in 13 events, won Youth High Point, receiving five
World Champion titles and three Reserve World Champion
titles. I was also crowned Miss American Ranch Horse 2011.
As Miss American Ranch Horse, I have
represented the association at many events, including the
2011 Reichert Celebration, led a committee assigned the task
of youth activity growth recommendations to the ARHA Board
of Directors and am working to promote ARHA and grow our
membership. Along with being Miss American Ranch Horse, I am
also the President for the Volunteer Youth Ranch Horse
Association in Tennessee. In addition, I am a 12 year
veteran of 4-H and am a member of National Honor Society.
We moved to Tennessee in August of 2011 and
Rosey is now retired with over 3,000 points in the American
Ranch Horse Association. We look forward to the first
“Little Rosey” (by Chex Rooster) next spring. I am now
showing Rosey’s full sister, Willow, and expect great things
from her.
In the fall, I will attend Volunteer State
University and after two years, I will transfer to Middle
Tennessee State University and I will major in Physical
Therapy.
I would like to give a special thanks to my
parents for all of their support. I could not have done it
without them!

Kaleigh King
New Braunfels, TX
PHBA
A cowgirl from New Braunfels,
Texas, I am a senior at New Braunfels High School. I am the
proud daughter of Tim and Kelley and sister to Ryan and
Allison.
The most important thing in my life, besides my family, is
showing my athletic gelding, JD Gold. I climbed aboard JD
when he was a two year old, having 20 days of training.
Since then, I’m the only one who has been on his back. I am
responsible for teaching him the skills he has to
competitively perform in Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle,
Hunter Equitation, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship
and Trail. I am also very active with our county 4-H Horse
Club. I have been showing at the District and State 4-H
Horse Shows since I was 9 years old. Our family vacation
each summer is spent in Abilene, Texas at the State 4-H
Horse Show where my sister and I show all week, meet up with
friends we haven’t seen for a year and have an all-around
good time. I am super excited to be working a 2 year old and
prepping him for the futurity. I am 2nd Vice President of
our 4-H club where I have chaired the horse show and t-shirt
committees. I am on the Leadership Team and spend lots of
time collecting canned foods, bake sales and a variety of
community service. I am also a member of the FFA and for the
past 2 years have been on the Chapter Horse Judging Team. I
am presently the Parliamentarian on the Comal County 4-H
Council.
I will attend North Central Texas College in Gainesville,
Texas in the fall. I plan to study Equine Science while
riding on the equestrian team. Later, I will study to be a
sonogram technician.
I’m thankful for the time I’ve been given to ride horses.
I’ve learned through all of my experiences and they have
molded me into the equine friendly person I am today. My mom
and dad gave me a wonderful opportunity. I’m extremely
grateful I’ve gotten to meet some really neat friends down
the trail.
I’m in this horse business for the long haul-much longer
than an 8 second ride. After college you will find me in the
show ring, training a horse or two and hopefully, making
history!
